Types of Pigmentation – Acne Scarring

Acne scars often occur at the site of an injury to the skin, whilst doing so they can result in unwanted pigmentation. There is often a variation in scarring between an individual and the other , however acne scarring often occur from severe inflammatory cystic acne infections.  Scarring may also occur from some superficial inflamed lesions of the skin. Acne scarring can be prevented by treating any form of inflammatory acne infections on time. There are several acne scarring types, the increased tissue formation result from acne infections may result in Keloids or Hypertrophic  acne scarring. The treatment of acne scarring often vary from 30% to 75% in improvement of the scarred region.

There are several kinds of acne scarring, most prominent among these are; Ice-pick acne scarring, Keloidal scarring, Post-inflammatory pigmentation scarring, Rolling acne scarring, and several others. Keloidal acne scarring is one of the most prominent acne scarring today, it is a kind of acne scarring that occur in dark-skin patients and it is characterized with raised thickened scars. Lesional steroids are used in most cases to treat this form of acne scarring complications, and Laser genesis.

Post inflammatory pigmentation scarring is another common acne scarring problem which occur as a result of the healing of healing inflamed acne lesion . It is an acne scarring problem common in dark skin people, however it has also gain popularity among some white skin people as well. Though the early treatment of post inflammatory pigmentation is advisable , however some form of this acne scarring may persist for more than 18 months. Excessive exposure of the affected parts of the skin to the sun may also aggravate the effect of Post inflammation scarring problems.

Rolling scars are the commonest and the most disfiguring form of acne scarring infections. They often appear as superficial and soft to touch, they often appear in linear or circular shapes and are quite small when compared to other forms of acne scarring infections. This form of acne scarring often affect the lower part of the collagen fibers under the skin, and it is one of the most stubborn form of acne scarring infections today .

Acne scarring  can be treated though a number of ways, however the treatment option to be used will be determined by a number of factors which include; the sensitivity of the skin to treatment, the extent of spread and damage of the scarring, and the period at which scarring is expected to heal.
